Don't waste your money. A guide tells you a few things about the building which you can look up online. She walked our group around the market and stopped at 8-10 places for samples which you can do on your own. She would also walk us by places and rave about the items available and then say "you aren't getting any of these". Really crazy. Spent $50-ish per person to sample olive oil, juice, yogurt, a chocolate dipped pretzel, beef jerky, a pizza bite, olives, dried fruit, and maybe two other things. Our tour was at lunch time. I thought I would leave full. I didn't realize the ridiculous food we would get. We could have just walked the market on our own and left with a lot of food if we had used the money spent on the tour to buy the food that interested us instead of on a chocolate dipped pretzel.
Not impressed with the tour. or samples given. First given bottles of WARM water. Felt now worth the price. Would not recommend. Tour guide was ok. Had too call to find out where guide was, she came 15 minutes late. Was expecting something nicer. Samples were bad given in plastic bags. It's sad the shape they have let Westside Market decline. Live in CLE and took bunch of friends from out of state. BUMMER OF A TOUR.
It was a cancelled without warning. We drove 3 1/2 hours to get there. When we arrived there was no tour guide. WE went to the manager of the market. She had no idea about tours. She called the number and we were informed that the guide couldn't make it because of covid and we would be getting our money back.
We met at the assigned meeting place with our guide Fallon. She was cordial and from the very beginning informative. We had a brief history outside before going into the market. I am certain if the temperature was warmer and the wind was not blowing we would have heard more of the history. We were a small group of 6 adults and one sweet cutie. Fallon moved us through the market with her expert knowledge, interesting facts, and tastes of wonderful offerings from the vendors. If we had come to the market as independants, we would have been overwhelmed, I am sure. It would have been great chaotic fun, but we would not have had the interesting asides Fallon shared with us. Please, please consider this tour if you think you want to see the market. Take the tour, go next door and have lunch, then go back to the market on your own if you must. Many thanks to Fallon for a wonderful visit to the Westside Market, we will definitely visit again when in Cleveland.
We really enjoyed this tour! Julie, our guide, was helpful, welcoming and informative. The food samples were a nice variety and tasty....cheese, jerkey, meat sticks, falafel, apple fritters, yogurt/granola, olives, pickles, catcus salad, chocolate covered pretzels, buckeyes, dried fruit/vegetables, juice, honey, and mustard with pretzels. The view from above is nice highlight too. Bottled water is provided at the start of the tour as well. Great time! Impressive market rich in the history how people immigrant to CLE and brought their ethnic foods.
Everyone at the market was extremely friendly and helpful. I saw fruits and vegetables that I have never seen before. The trip was interesting, educational and just fun. I definitely will be going back and I highly recommend visiting. Great time had by all!
very much like THe St Lawrence Market in toronto just a bit smaller. So many wonderful stalls. Lots of prepared food to eat also. We picked up some hungarian sausage, lots of local cheese, Coffee as we strolled, two huge Gyro's for a picnic. I picked up some black walnut oil, fresh veggies to eat in the car as well as candles to take home. Saw huge tomack steaks...wow.
We went on the West Side Market Food Tour last week. This was a foodie's type of visit. Carol was our tour guide and she had us try so many samples. We left not needing to buy ourselves lunch. The market was well lite, the varieties were endless, and I saw an entire pig's head for sale. The cheeses were varied and I enjoyed trying each and every one. Carol gave us each a large bottle of water which was much appreciated.
